Celebrating Many Milestones!
Laurel Glen Vineyard 40th Anniversary Magnum
2021 is a special year for us at Laurel Glen Vineyard. Ten years ago Bettina and her partners purchased the winery and vineyard from Patrick Campbell and became the stewards of what has proven, over and over, to be a great Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. Additionally, 2021 will be the 40th vintage of our flagship Estate Cabernet Sauvignon AND a decade of farming the vineyard organically.
To celebrate, we have created a beautiful wine, ready to enjoy now, from three of our favorite (and most memorable) Estate Cabernet Sauvignon vintages:
2007 - an especially lush wine from an especially lush vintage and an homage to the Patrick Campbell era
2011 - a cool year that produced a wine with great acidity and structure and the first full vintage of the Bettina Sichel era
2012 - well because it's 2012: a glorious year of perfect weather that produced an abundance of delicious wine
We created only 600 bottles of this one-of-a-kind blend to commemorate our 40th anniversary. I can't think of a better complement to a holiday meal or gathering. Purchase now so you don't miss out on this limited offer. Click here to purchase.
In 1987 Evan Goldstein became the eighth American and youngest ever at the time to pass the prestigious Master Sommelier examination. He is currently President & Chief Wine Officer of Master the World and President & Chief Education Officer of Full Circle Wine Solutions, in between regularly contributing to several epicurean and wine publications. Recently he tasted a bottle and sent us these comments:
"I have been a fan of Laurel Glen’s wines from the first time Patrick Campbell stepped foot in my family’s then-restaurant, Square One in San Francisco, in the mid 1980’s. Unfamiliar with either Patrick or the winery, I took the appointment with zero expectations. The resultant placement of Laurel Glen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon on my wine list became as perennial as the wine itself, cementing its position in the pantheon of great cabernets in our award-winning wine program. The years and change of ownership have done nothing but build strength on strength.
Understanding the custodial responsibility of a magic spot, Bettina and Randall have carried the vineyard’s torch and continued to improve the wines. It is only fitting that this 40th anniversary bottling, a thoughtful assemblage of three curated vintages, celebrates, memorializes, and commemorates this historic heritage site and the defining wine it shares with us.
This wine exudes complex fruit notes of savory red and black plum, black currant, and blackberry/cherry, punctuated by herbal nuances of bay leaf, marjoram, and pipe tobacco. The nose and palate both show a distinct presence of rich dark earth and crushed-rock minerality. All of this is framed with a harmonious oak presence revealing trace flavors of cocoa nibs, carob, star anise and toast. Fresh and bright, the wine finishes expansively with precision and balance - markers of ageworthiness that one knows this magnum offering has in its future." - Evan Goldstein MS
